The Family Support Practitioner (FSP) is responsible for providing para-professional support services to assist child welfare staff in meeting the needs of clients and supporting initiatives to keep children with their families and/or enhance family reunification. The FSP supervises family visits; assesses and provides feedback on family interactions; provides information on and assists with accessing community resources; and assists with any other task that helps a family address identified concerns. Scheduling duties also required.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Ability to model practical parenting skills while providing effective feedback.
- Strong assessment skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to support Agency initiatives to keep children with their families and/or enhance family reunification.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, and agency policies and procedures.
- Proficient in computer software applications including MS Office, and database programs
- Experience in scheduling.
Qualifications:
- Minimum post-secondary diploma in Social Services, Social Work, or Child/Youth Worker.
- A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
- An awareness of Indigenous issues, including knowledge of the communities, family structure, customs and traditions, is an asset.
- Two years’ experience working with children and / or families.
Required:
- Must possess a valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License and have access to a vehicle with an OPCF6A Insurance endorsement and minimum of $1,000,000 Liability.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check, Internal Records Check, and Driver’s Abstract.
- The ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
- Occasional travel within the region is also required.
